Canadian junior miner Desert Gold Ventures Inc. specializes in the exploration and development of gold resources on the African continent.
The company’s flagship project is the Shear Zone Project Senegal Mali. In addition, Desert Gold holds another gold exploration concession for the Djimbala project, also located in Mali.
In addition, the Rutare project in Rwanda is part of the Canadian exploration company’s portfolio.
Shear Zone Gold Project in Mali
The Shear Zone Gold Project is considered Desert Gold’s flagship project. The exploration area is located in Mali and partially overlaps the already productive Shear Zone Senegal Mali area.
There are already 4 first class active gold mines there with the Fekola mine of B2 Gold, the Gounkoto and Loulo mines of Barrick Gold and the Sadiola and Yatela mines of the British mining company Allied Gold.
The exploration area covers approximately 410 square kilometers, making it one of the largest gold exploration areas in West Africa. To date, 20 open gold zones have been discovered and are being further investigated. To this end, there are numerous areas that still need to be tested.
Overall, this gives Desert Gold’s Shear Zone project the potential for the discovery of significant gold deposits that are expected to be similar to those found at already producing mines in the nearby area.
The Djimbala Gold Project
Desert Gold’s second project is also located in Mali. Similar to the Shear Zone project, several large deposits and mines are located within a few kilometers of the approximately 100 square kilometer exploration area.
For example, to the west of the Djimbala area is the Komana mine of the British mining company Hummingbird Resources. To the south, the exploration area borders the Kalana gold deposit owned by Endeavour Mining. North of the Djimbala area is the Kodieran Mine, in which the German Pearl Gold AG is involved as project developer and as an active investor.
Most of the Djimbala concession area has never been properly explored. However, the proximity of several profitable gold mines suggests that the Djimbala project area also contains worthwhile gold deposits.
The Rutare Project in Rwanda
Desert Gold has held a mining license for the approximately 375-hectare Rutare area since 2016, but it expires at the end of 2026. According to a mineral resource estimate, the deposit contains about 5.5 million tons of mineralized rock grading for about 265 ounces of gold.
To date, only a mine plan design has been drafted for the Rutare project. However, Desert Gold has since applied for another concession area near the Rutare area to explore an even larger potential gold zone.
