AngloGold Ashanti Limited – Share outperforms gold price

The South African gold mining company AngloGold Ashanti Limited is one of the largest gold producers in the world in terms of market capitalization. The company is active with promising operations and exploration projects on 4 continents in a total of 9 countries.

The success course of AngloGold Ashanti can not only be seen in the huge gold production of around 3 million ounces per year, but also the company’s share price has outperformed the gold price in recent months.

For investors, AngloGold Ashanti is thus an extremely interesting gold producer with good profit opportunities.

A global gold producer

AngloGold Ashanti is headquartered in South Africa. However, the company is active in Africa, Australia and America. Although gold is the main product, AngloGold Ashanti also produces silver in Argentina and sulfuric acid in Brazil.

In Colombia, there are also 2 projects for which feasibility studies are currently underway and which are expected to produce gold as well as copper in the future.

AngloGold Ashanti is equally engaged in exploration to discover and develop new mining operations and in the mining, refining and sale of mineral commodities.

Last year, just like the years before, AngloGold Ashanti was among the 10 largest gold producers in the world in terms of market capitalization, alongside such strong competitors as Newmont Mining, Barrick Gold, Newcrest Mining, Agnico-Eagle Mines.

Considering the production volume, AngloGold Ashanti is even the largest gold producer on the African continent and the third largest producer of gold worldwide.

More than 36000 people work for the group, which held a market capitalization of $9.4 billion at the end of 2020.

Large portfolio

AngloGold Ashanti is one of the most successful gold producers, not least because of its numerous and geographically diverse projects.

In Africa alone, the company operates two mines in Ghana, the Induapriem open pit mine and the Obuasiz underground mine, which are wholly owned by AngloGold Ashanti.

Also wholly owned by AngloGold Ashanti is the Geita Mine in Tanzania. It is one of the Group’s flagship mines.

The Group has an 85 percent stake in the Siguiri open pit mine in Guinea, while the gold producer has a 45 percent stake in one of Africa’s largest gold mines, the Kibali Gold Mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In addition to the African mining operations, the portfolio includes two further mines in Australia and mining operations in Argentina, Brazil and Colombia.

AngloGold Ashanti Share

AngloGold Ashanti’s shares are listed on the Johannesburg, Australian, Ghanaian and New York stock exchanges and have gained around 3.6 percent over the last 6 months. Thus, AngloGold Ashanti paper outperformed the gold price. The securities are therefore an interesting option, especially for longer-term investments.
