Base metals are metals that oxidize in combination with oxygen. Iron, copper, zinc and lead are only some of the known base metals, but also less known ones like vanadium, indium or niobium belong to this group.
In contrast to precious metals, the value of base metals is defined mainly by the fact that they are purely industrial metals, which are important and essential in many industries.
While the major global players such as Glencore, Anglo American, Rio Tinto or Vale produce a wide variety of mineral raw materials on a large scale, the Canadian mining company Trevali specializes in the production of base metals, and among them, above all, zinc production.
The company operates a total of three major zinc mines in Canada, Namibia and Burkina Faso. The year 2021 was extraordinarily successful for Trevali, so that the company is also becoming increasingly interesting for investors.
Caribu Mine in Canada
The Caribu Mine in the Canadian state of New Brunswick is 100 percent owned by Trevali. In addition to zinc, the underground mine also produces copper, lead, silver and gold. Around 3000 tons of mineral-bearing rock are processed per day.
In 2020, Trevali temporarily put the mine operation on care and maintenance. However, the mine has been fully operational again since the beginning of 2021.
Perkoa Mine in Burkina Faso
The Perkoa mine in Burkina Faso has been in commercial operation since 2013. The underground mine is 90 percent owned by Trevali and produces zinc concentrate at a daily capacity of 2000 tons.
Rosh Pinah Mine in Namibia
In southwestern Namibia lies the Rosh Pinah underground mine, which is 90 percent owned by Trevali. The mine has been in continuous operation since 1969 and produces mainly zinc and lead. The zinc and lead sulfide concentrates recovered there also contain small amounts of copper, gold and silver.
More projects
In addition to the three high-yield mines in Canada, Burkina Faso and Namibia, the company owns properties for exploration in Halfmile and Stratmat, as well as Restigouche, also in Brunswick State, Canada.
In addition, there is currently an option with Health Steel to acquire 100 percent of another deposit in New Brunswick.
Current production figures – Trevali achieves record production

Trevali also achieved record production throughout 2021.
